There are lots of reasons why some of our children and families choose to access HEWS (Health and Emotional Well-Being Service) which includes experiencing feelings of sadness, anger, worry, anxiety or having other troubles which they need some support with. HEWS is a service we are providing at Starks Field to enable our children and families to have access to support when it is needed.
We have a qualified therapist who can offer up to six meetings in school and who, if more is needed, can suggest other agencies who may be able to help. Sometimes children will meet with the therapist on their own, sometimes parents on their own and sometimes parents and children together. No meetings will take place without the consent of parents and access to HEWS will always be discussed with parents by the school in the first instance. Accessing HEWS allows children and their parents to talk about any problems and to think about how they would like things to be different.
We have had some really positive feedback from children and parents who have accessed HEWS at Starks Field, including:
“It’s really good to have somewhere to talk about things.” -Parent
“If I’m sad it helps me think about what to do and it will help me.” - pupil
“She listens very carefully and sometimes she gives me very, very helpful advice.” – pupil
“HEWS can be really helpful and it helps solve my problems.” – pupil
If you would like to find out more about HEWS or how to access it, please ask at the school office to speak to Ms Fulton or Ms Smith.
