Starks Field Primary School

Be The Best You Can Be helps our pupils learn the importance of our six core values: kindness, respect, tolerance, resilience, honesty and self-responsibility.

  1. Parents and Carers
  2. Starting School

Starting School

The nursery class has a series of open days in the summer term when parents and children are invited to joint sessions, so that everyone can become familiar with the school and the staff.

It would be helpful if children coming new to the school could do the following:

  1. Dress and undress.
  2. Remove outdoor things and hang them on a peg.
  3. Use a knife and fork.
  4. Use the toilet properly.
  5. Wash and dry hands efficiently.
  6. Tidy up after using toys, apparatus and books.

In the Summer Term before the children transfer to Reception, they are familiarised with the Reception routines and staff in order to ensure a smooth transition. The children initially attend Reception part-time, for the first week they will attend for either the morning or afternoon, for the second week they will all come in the morning and stay for lunch, on the third week they will stay for the whole day. Parents are invited to join their child for lunch and sample our delicious school lunches on the first two days of the second week.

We have a policy for Early Years Education which outlines the school’s approach to the curriculum appropriate for young children. It is available in our school information/policies section.

Tax-free childcare

This is a new UK-wide government scheme to help parents with the cost of childcare.  Eligible parents will be able to open an online childcare account. The money held in these accounts can only be used to pay for registered childcare. For every £8 parents pay in to their childcare account, the government will pay in an additional £2, up to a maximum of £2,000 per child per year (or £4,000 for children with SEN).  To find out if you are eligible, click here, and to sign up, click here.
